  1. He is 25? I thought, at least 10 years older! Sure?

  2. 1) Superb video2) Wish they'd revisit the topic again since this was a few years ago.3) Wish it was differentiated, where appropriate, by white & black — especially for beginners.

  3. Was Hikaru really dead serious about the Scandinavian being Legendary tier, or was he slight trolling??? Because I never saw a beginner play the Scandinavian defense well… that's the only thing I didn't get, otherwise great tier list and fantastic video

  4. Why you consider a Benko gambit as garbage? This is nice opening for beginners with solid setup and simple ideas to follow. I mean i am playing against my level opponents. What will they do about it? Your list is way too academical. I really do not see an issue with a Benko gambit. Latvian is way too harder and less safe opening. You where not consistent in your evaluation. You, guys really should do a better job here. This list helps a very little.

  6. According to this list, beginners have to play white only. At Least Scandi made top. I am glad!

  10. DONT LISTEN TO PEOPLE WHO SAY SILLICAN SUCKS FOR BEGGINER ITS GOOD TRUST ME JUST PLAY AGAINSNT WALLY BOT AND SWITCH ON ENGINE TO TEL YOU WHAT TO PLAY SINCE MOST PEOPLE DO THAT TRUSTM ME.AND LEVY IS DUMB THE CARO SUCKS FOR BEGGINERS IVE PLAYED IT AND THE ADVANCED CARO LEADS TO VERY TRICKY DEVELOPENT AND A MAJOR SPACE PROBLEM PLAY THE SILLICAN NOT CARO AND WHITE PLAY THE QUEENS GAMBIT NOT THE LONDON(THE LONDON IS STILL GOOD BUT IT CAN BE HARD TO PLAY IN THE MIDDLE GAME WITH A VERY CLOSE POSITION

  11. 9:32 my experience starting out was that i was too afraid of gambits and tricks so i almost always declined any gambit to start off

  12. ROFL!!!!, with Hikaru looking like.." does not everyone know all the elements in the periodic table". that's probably the funniest moment until now in these three parts X)…not that I didn't LOL my arse of before…..

  13. i love how the scholar's mate opening just becomes a long line of theory even at 400-500 elo because of how common it is and how dangerous it is if you dont know the right response as black (and how dangerous for white it can be if black knows the response but white doesnt)

i have played scholar's mate exactly once and it was in a fischer random game where i was about 600 (in chess960) against a 300 elo and i noticed all the pieces (especially the bishop and queen) were still in the right position to allow for variations of both scholar's mate and wayward queen attack on the board (of course on different files/diagonals than in standard chess) and i knew that all the response theory wouldnt really be available for black since its 960 and theyd have to sort of invent a response that didnt lose as a 300 (i did win that game by scholar's mate though)

  14. There are 71 openings for beginner's chess? Are there that many openings for intermediate chess players? Are there that many openings for advanced chess players? And these are just the openings. Then there is mid-game and end-game strategies. I'm a beginner and this is overwhelming, quite discouraging. How do you rate the Bellon Gambit?

  15. Okay i was trying to find a good opening and im about 1ooo and im tired of the london so i learnt the queens gambit which now i can win basically every game with and sillican as black after i saw this vid because i always thought the sillican seemed solid but i saw levys sillican video and said it was too complex but i tried it by practicing againsnt wally bot and the game review engine(free told me what i should i play and its actually very nice and not complex like people claim and now im winning every game i play literally.

  16. THE SILLICAN IS FOR BEGGINERS I CAN WIN EVERY GAME NOW AND IM 1000 YOU NOOBS JUST FOLLOW THE INTERNET BUT 1.)PEOPLE DK HOW TO REACT AND ITS EASIER TO PLAY THAN YOU THINK JUST PUSH YOUR PAWN AND PUT YOUR KNIGHT AND PAWN AND FIANCHETTO YOUR BISSHOP OR PUT 2 PAWNS IN CENTER BOTTOM EZ

or its either im just more naturally better than you noobs who try to attack instead of playing solidly like me and attacking when i feel like like when i win a tempo without realising its more like momenthum

  17. Last I was this early, The jerome gambit was a solid opening

  18. They really should take a course on "Colour – What matches what?"

  19. Yeah the Jerome Gambit is still the best opening.

  20. So they put dragon in unbreakable, but accelerated dragon in really bro FOR BEGINNERS. Lichess opening database tells that for 1600,1800,2000,2200 rating BLACK WINS MORE THAN WHITE. My level is ~2000 and almost always when I play accelerated dragon I get just a normal dragon with an extra tempo because beginners dont know about maroczy bind. Accelerated dragon for sure should be higher rated than normal dragon for beginners
