Regarded as the GOAT of chess, Magnus Carlsen has incorporated a new, peculiar, and unconventional chess opening known as the Goat Horns opening into his repertoire. Remarkably, he holds an impressive win rate of 82% with this unusual opening, having even secured victories against formidable opponents such as Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana.
Curious about how this opening unfolds? Carlsen begins with 1…a6 on move 1 – yes, you heard it right! But the intrigue doesn’t stop there; he follows up with 2…c6, yet another seemingly bizarre move.
While it may appear to be a whimsical opening, suitable for trolling opponents on the Internet, it actually has some interesting variations that allow Black to attain a superior position.

7:53 Black play Queen b8 and win a piece.
I love this because it prevents white from pinning my knight like they normally do at my level so i can continue to put pressure on the critical caro central pawns 🎉❤
Qc7 is the move😊
Why not playing h3 before Nf3, just to say to Carlsen: 'Go go man, play Bg4' 🙂
Brain rot don't watch
Sir GM Igor you're TOTAL GENIUS, YOUR TACTICS are absolutely clear and fine,, BRILLIANT
I think a6 is very reasonable when paired with the Caro-Kann, I never played a5 anyway, in the karlsbad structure we always play a6/a3. Rather than playing the botvinnik Carls against the advanced CK, I think a6 is a much better option.
Pin to win Knight… but from a well defended square… unless you prefer trading Queens without winning the Knight first 😉
What is the name of this defense that the lions play, and does it have ramifications that can be studied? Thank you very much
In the line 1. d4 a6 2. e4 c6 3. Nf3 d5 4. e5 Bg4 5. Be2 e6 6. O-O c5 black is underdeveloped. Therefore white should open the position immediately with 7. c2c4. In my opinion 7. c2c4 is the critical line to test the Delayed Caro-Kahn Goat Variation.
caro kann is good though

Nice
QC7?
Magness got this from me!
Qc7 pinning the ne5
Qc7 wins a knight
Qb8 pins the e5 knight.
Me on my way to play this banger in a standard tournament 🗣️🗣️🔥
Look intresting like carocan and french mix
I think Qb8 is right. If Qc7 knight goes g6 and saves the position for white. 8:00
Qb8, winning the Knight. Thank you!
When black plays bishop to g4 i rarely see the counter white pawn to G3 (which would be my immediate reaction, chasing the bishop away). Can someone tell me why this is not a good counter to bishop to g4??
Why not just play 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 a6 4. Bd3 with an improved advanced caro-kann for white.
QG8 looks like the best, it wins the night on E5, if QF7, then white can move the night, to defend the queen, and if QxQ, then NxQ, if PxN, then black drops his queen.
Grandmaters: Don't waste Pawn moves in the opening.🤓-2020,2021,2022,2023.
The Goat (Magnus): I don't care.😎🐂-2024.
My weapon is the Caro-Kann.🙂
So I am playing the Goat Horn Variation/Defense/Counterattack.😁
Sussy symbolism in the thumbnail and then you throw up the horn sign. Are you doing this intentionally or subconsciously? Do you understand what these symbols signify?
Qb8 is the move. Qct doesn't work because of Nd3
But doesn't Carlson already win 85% of his matches without using the GOAT opening?
Thanks
👍
Using Carlson as a reason for a strategy working is like saying we can play football just like Messi
As a vet, I love goats 🐐🐐
Just used this opening on the Fighter bot. Crushed it so easily. I think this bot doesn’t know anything about this opening. Plus 21 at end. I like it. Thanks
♥
Qc7
Nice video. From what looks initially like a trolling play by Carlsen, to perhaps a very clever way to get a favourable opening position… Qb8
It’s official, Magnus is part of the secret club. Fuck em
