Jonathan Schrantz shows you how to play the Leningrad variation of the Dutch Defence, an opening rarely seen in top level play. In this first part, learn the 7…Nc6 branch.
2017.02.27
Robert Fontaine vs Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, French Championships (2007): A89 Dutch, Leningrad, main variation with Nc6
Levon Aronian vs Hikaru Nakamura, Tata Steel (2011): A89 Dutch, Leningrad, main variation with Nc6
Magnus Carlsen vs Dennis Rylander, Salongernas IM-tournament (2003): A89 Dutch, Leningrad, main variation with Nc6
Thanks jonathan.
please make a video on Queen side castling
Can we have a full series on either the KID, the Grunfeld or the Nimzo-Indian? One video is not enough to clearly explain these openings and it would be pretty fun to watch as they are pretty popular openings.
C63 Ruy Lopez, Schliemann Defense
My channel is all about the Dutch-Leningrad set-up for white AND black. Have a look on my games playlist to see how it has worked for me (freakin great!).
Sicilian Defense, Chekhover variation. There's already a video on it by Akobian, but I don't like it very much, I want more perspective on how to face it with Black, possibly analyzing 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 Nf6 4.Nc3 cd 5.Qxd4 a6.
najdorf 6.Bg5 variation please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
23:00 hmmm… maybe Queen to C4.
OH I'M RIGHT! I'm a GM…in rewinding videos xD
He forgot to mention a key tactic at the exchange sacrifice. Why after Bxf8 white can't take exf3?
1. … e4 2. Bxf8 exf3 3. Bxg7 fxg2 4. Bxf6 gxf1Q+ is great for black
But: 1. e4 2. Bxf8 exf3 3. <Qxd8> Nxd8 4. Bxg7 fxg2 5. Rfd1! is the point, attacking the N at d8 and staying up in material
Great videos on the Dutch! I love the classical Dutch with 7.Ne4 thanks to GM Simon Williams. Also I like to play e6 then f5 to avoid white easily playing e4. I hope you cover Ne4 when you get to the classical Dutch and maybe games by the ginger gm! Thanks again!
"Three part series" he said, but we all know how the semislav series ended LoL
When would the third part come out? Schrantz is awesome!
@20:54 GM Ken West
Polish opening
Ben where are you
Nice scrantz
Great 👍🏻
But in that position you can gain material! (where you sacrefise the exchange) You trade queen (else yours will be hanging) than take the knight and than take the bischop
classical dutch pleaseee
Guys, where is the flag from that appears at the beginning?
where is part 3?
29:10 … flip the board… … confusing Ben finegold
WHO is at the STL chess club and doesnt know either magnus or karajkan?!?!?!?!
29:01 in…sist? YOu are insisting?!
He insists…
You should really do a video on the Dutch dude, it will get a lot of views.

At 11:55 what about whites f4?
where is part 3?
you talk shit on the edges schrantz.
@10:06 why not Rc8 as the a pawn is defended by the queen?
Typical waste of time on a single variation or game nobody can relate to. Completely unhelpful.
I know chess, but I don't know smart chess. I dont even know how to "castle". That's the only "chess-term" I know.
Sir why did you stop making chess openings explained videos 😢
Look at his face while he's explaining) He obviously likes Dutch defence. Well, I personally love it too, amazing opening. I've been looking for something exciting against d4, I think I'll try this one
7…Na6 38:04 Rg1 Rxg7 etc. 45:47 maybe he miss Bxe6 example a6 Qh6 Rxg6
I kinda got stuck at 14:11 and ended up rewinding a few times and had to hear about the CHESS WOOZEL about 6 times lol! And 23:02 "Sac the Queen…" your face made me lol! I got Qc4, I got Qc4! But for TOTALLY the wrong reasons lol no clue it led to perpetual, oh well 🙁
Well, it took me a… while but i got to the end eventually lol and absolutely LOVED it! You have a very good way of explaining (to me at least) very complicated ideas, thank you, much appreciated! 🙂
dutch lenin grad is the best
Is this guy Nick Kroll's brother or something?
I'm enjoying the lectures, thanks a lot
i know yhis is interactive class, but I WISH eric Bitting would be quier!
00:01 what the name of the music
Wow what a brilliant sequence
I watched this video and now I know this game by heart which I usually don't do that but my brain just kinda absorbed all of this
The man who needed to be reminded the name of the opening half an hour into this must have an inestimable Elo
i love chess, being playing it for 20 years almost every day.
but when it comes to watch a video explaination suddenly it becomes the most boring thing on earth.
Schrantz is the mantz!
A presentation of the Dutch Stonewall would be appreciated very much.
the Dutch is tricky! Great commentary
There is no defense against the Dutch Oven.
“Opening Momentum” for various lines would be interesting data to capture 🧐 Understanding which moves are becoming popular and knowing the rates at which they are gaining / losing could be helpful for strategic preparation I would guess?
