🔹 The Most Underrated Chess Opening –

This is a continuation of the “Most Underrated Chess Openngs” series by GM Igor Smirnov. In this video lesson, you will learn the Grob’s Attack, which starts with the unusual 1.g4.

The opening takes its name from Swiss International Master Henri Grob (1904–1974) who analysed it extensively and played hundreds of correspondence games with it.

A great thing about this opening is that the White’s first move 1.g4 is so rare that most of your opponents will be shocked to see it. Therefore, you get them out of their opening preparation giving you a great chance of winning the game!

Watch the video lesson and learn the typical ideas for White, most common traps that Black fall for, common responses of Black and how to exploit them.

  1. Thanks a lot for this soo interesting opening!

  2. Played one game like this and got an immediate win when he dropped the bishop.

  3. Thank you for your video it is very helpful and my only question is can you do a video or explain to me what if black does pushes king pawn and then how do you play after that ?

  4. For me personally, I think this is fun to play and see how your opponent reacts. I typically play the London which I feel is very conservative and safe.

  5. 1. g4 d5 2. Bg2 Bxg4 3. c4 e6 4. Qb3 e6
So the pawn is exposed, queen is exposed and white have a nightmare after this. Definitely not a opening for any consideration. Not even for bullet games.

  6. Please make a video where black plays e5 instead of d5.

  7. 8:40 white moves pawn to D6 if black takes with pawn, queen to F7 checkmate

  8. Puzzle answer? I was thinking Nxf7, but after d6 and Be6… white has nothing.

  9. I played this like 100 times at 600-1000 (started from 1000 and lost trying this) and not ONCE did I trap someone.

  10. it's an awesome opening, i completely suffocated my opponent with the opening

  11. VERY BAD BLACK CAN PLAY 1..E5 NE7 NG6 AND WIN

  12. Very good method.I tried to several times.i experienced that it is tuff for more rated players than me,because they take more time to respond this opening and tricks.i won 20% and 10% on time.so thank you to teach us this method.

  13. Super…!it's working..it also work for black also…more chance to win ..I tried..60% won..this opening gives 80% confidence..👏👏 u are great…thank you… ..⭐⭐💯

  14. Before you use this opening, make sure your opponent does not know how to play chess. Black opening with E5 shuts this totally down.

  15. I like the content. Guy does a good job, it might be petty but for some reason his accent annoys me. Sorry

  16. I'm trying to figure out if this opening is dumber than the Danish opening. The Danish opening is only effective against a <800 opponent that you have lobotomized before the game. This opening isn't effective until you play it a million times in a row, of which you'll win maybe 7 times.

  17. Thanks for this instructive video, which I enjoyed and learnt a lot from. I just finished playing a game inspired by your video on the Grob gambit, and would like to share this comment with you. Black played a very beautiful move after I (White) played my 5-th move: 1.g4…d5; 2.Bg2…Bxg4; 3.c4…c6; 4.cxd5…cxd5; 5.Qb3…Qc7! I think this is M1, and I was lucky to detect it and find the right answer to it (Nc3).

  18. On time 8:30, the winning move is d6 because the bishop attacks the rook, and you threaten mate on f7.

  19. Bro! You are amaizing 🙂 In just two weeks my ranking went up from 1500 up to 1700 using only this method🙋🏻‍♂️

  20. Guys, If the opponent doesnt fall for the trap and opens up with D5, the best thing u can do is protect the pawn with pawn to F3 !

  21. Again, these tricks don’t work for me because my foe won’t follow this script. Black ignored the g4 pawn, playing e4 instead. When I played c4. He advanced his pawn to d4.

  22. First game I played at 950 and the opponent went e4. Why are we only looking at the losing lines and not when the opponent plays correctly?

  23. After Nb5 black Rook c7 can give check Rc7:Bc1+ and white Queen is gone

  24. I would do E5 to get ready for fools mate or 4 moves each check mate.

  25. Hey , my friend: "All those options" are GREAT! Thanks for sharing your genius!

  26. I tried that in 500 elo and they just play random answers and none of those tactics apply. And as I am also 500 elo I have no idea how to respond to their possibly bad responses.

  27. Had (and won) a game as black recently in 1. g4 d5 2. Bg2 Bxg4 3. c4 c6 4. cxd5 Nf6 5. dxc6 Nxc6 that prompted me to find this video. Interesting sideline, because at that point, with the knight on c6, Qb3 is kinda untimely. Game continued 6. Nc3 e5 7. Qb3? Nd4! 8. Qxb7? Nc2+ 9. Kd1 Rb8 10. Qc6+ Bd7 11. Qf3 Nxa1 and white lost on time soon after.

  28. I'm glad you showed this opening been playing it for years, so many traps and variations

  29. Magnus has people resigning after the first move so it must be a good one to study

  30. Who's taking that pawn on G4? I played 6 games playing around with this for fun not really caring if I win or lose and no one has yet taken that pawn lol
